Great video – Southside, Boss, Little Steven, the Jukes … those were the days.

It don’t get no more soulful than this. Does anyone have the bootleg of Bruce’s demo made for Johnny to learn this from? I have loved this song as far back as I can remember. If this don’t give you chills you’re already dead!

Ermengarde11 on 23 May, 2009 at 9:48 pm #

My heart is flying!!! I just adore this song so much. If this doesn’t give you goosebumps you’re already dead!!

southside johnnys voice is so soulful , hes white so fuckin wot, brilliant ,what you on wiv tryin to sound black hes always sounded like southside johnny ,jim davidson tries to sound black doin chalkie white

magichounddog on 28 May, 2009 at 6:35 pm #

and what about Snoop Dog “trying to sound white” with his new country song!?!

Why do you have to separate music into a racial issue? The whole point of music is to express one’s soul. Your skin is black or white. Your soul has no distinction.

And I have to add that “these cats” show more soul than any “black music” does today!

What the hell are you listening to anyway?

I HAVE(I AM A SPRINGSTEEN FAN) to say I was NOT a fan nor did I dislike SSJ (hadnt listened to much of his stuff) but after seeing these two together, I AM NOW A FAN. R.I.P DANNY!!!

There is only 2 black guys that could sing R&R can you name them? I can’t tell you how many times I heard a singer sing and thought they were black but come to find out they were white. Example Joss Stone.

Amen, my friend, Amen!

Truly one of the most memorable club shows I ever was lucky enough to experience right up front. Bruce had a blast on stage singing his song that Johnny covered o sooooo well. Khavian, please read about Shuggie Otis and what he said on the subject. Puts it all into perspective just as Iggriffin did so eloquently. These two guys sing from their hearts under no pretense of anything else. What comes out supersedes race, my friend. In this case, it was a great performance of inner soul.

Do you suppose people thought that Nat King Cole, one of the most talented, most gifted singers of all-time, was trying to sound white when he was singing the old standards. Or do you think that people just listened and enjoyed… as they realized that he had a set of pipes that produced a unique and most incredible sound?

SwingRiots on 19 June, 2009 at 3:39 pm #

Yes.

I also know that it’s “Jukes” not “Dukes”.

stallisman on 22 June, 2009 at 1:14 pm #

great vid. While everyone knows that Conan’s bandleader Max was/is from the E Street Band, did you know that Bamba the trumpet player (who does the “in the year 2000″ voice)and the rest of the band on Conan are from the Asbury Dukes. Bamba’s in the fedora in this video.

oasisannie on 25 June, 2009 at 10:22 am #

oh…my….god. if this song and/or performance doesn’t move you, you’re not alive.
