Really, the only people that would need to protect themselves are the children and the elderly.

The media sensationalized the whole bird flu thing and blew it out of proportion and in doing so, needlessly scaring the population.

by consulting doctors and taking vaccinations

Even though there is a threat of a serious pandemic, my personal belief is that it will never happen. The media LOVES to freak people out. However, if you want to know the facts about its potential, check out this website:

We are long overdue for an epidemic that will wipe out millions… it shall come soon.
If not the avian flu, then something else.

About the same number of deaths that the killer bees caused.
NONE

Bird flu WILL hit N. America, it is simply a matter of when. It is impossible to completely stop the movement of a disease when it is being carried by a wild population that can fly.

Most healthy people will probably not be affected. Making sure that the old and the young are not exposed would be the primary concern.

Do some invertigating into what happened begining in 1918 just after WWI. The spanish flue began in Kansas as an epodemic and soon became pandemic all over the world. The estimates run from 30 million dead to over 50 million dead.
Just think how much more we move arund and so fast now. You can be any place on this planet in less than one day. True and many do. If a flue that has no vacine for it or little cure then 50 million will be a very small number.

There is vey little you can do to protect yourself if it does become a pandemic. Until then yes be sure to stay healthy as possible and especialy in cold weather keep away from many people in one building such as basketball games and dances.

They are not quite sure of some of the people that have died. They may have caught it from another human but most have not and have been around birds a lot.
Just hope there is an effective vacene before that flue gets loose among us.

Note that when the spanish flue was so bad there was little anyone could do about it. That was before anttibiotics and other effective drugs we have now. No not even penicillin.

Also note that all flues come from birds some place. Most do get their start in humans among the Chinese people. This is mostly because of the way they live so close to their pigs. Many things that pigs get we do as well. From bird to himan happens but seldom alters to go to another human. From birds to pigs and then to humans makes it a lot easier for the virus to change nd go to other humans. This is not the only possibility but one well known to be true. Also look up abut the swine flue that also killed a lot of people.

It has reached America. One case of it has shown up in my County. Keep using sanitary gel to wash your hands all the time. Keep bathing, keep cleaning your clothing with bleach when possible. Stay clear of people you KNOW are ill. Stay as clean as possible, and wash your veg’s and fruits well before eating them.
