fever
She has an eye infection and ear infection. She started taking Augmentin (basically Amoxicillin) on Monday night. She’s had two full days of antibiotics. She is still running a fever (around 101 or 102, breaks and comes back throughout the day.) She is one year old. Does this mean the antibiotic isn’t working? Or is it normal for a fever to linger for a few days after antibiotics are introduced?

the antibiotics kill bacteria. the fever fights the bacteria. give her some motrin and plenty of fluids like pedialite for the night and if her temp goes back up tomorrow, i would call the pediatrician because of her age. if normally takes 24-48 hours for abx to work

Antibiotics don’t directly affect fevers. It takes up to several days for the antibiotics to fight off the infection enough to get rid of the fever. In the meantime, give her either infant Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Call your doctor’s office if you have questions.
