I know that its supposedly Fall, but its already Winter where I live. It already snowed and its freezing cold. Do you have any tips or know-hows on how to prevent or block cold air from coming into the house from cracks / seeps in the windows, doors and sliding door. Please help!!! I’m freezing in here.

Sealants that you can apply to the window, remove the old gums from the window seals, Reseal it. You may want to invest in a portable heater. Also buy alot of blankets or comforters. Get your house re-insulated. The doors can be affixed with seals or blockers that are placed at the bottom to block cold air from coming in as well. Get blinds or shutters to cover the windows so it keeps the cold weather radiating from the glass out of the rooms (this is minimal but it works).

I have boxes of tax papers and receipts and docs of all sort with tons of junk mail. After three burnt shredders I just resorted to crumbling the papers and filling trash bags than up to the attics. I’ll tell the difference after this winter…..

Make sure all of your weather stripping is good and pliable, and not cracked or m issing around all doors. Make sure windows are sealing well (some have weather stripping so check that as well). Sometimes you can feel around windows and doors and feel a draft if you feel air coming in try and seal up those areas. Check around electrical, cable, phone, and any other outlets you may have and make sure they are sealed up. If not unscrew the faceplate cover (it only has two screws) and make sure there is enough insulation around the metal box that is in the wall, or use caulk and caulk around the edge of the coverplate so seal up any holes air might be seeping through. At the bottom of your doors it may be a good idea to make sure your sweeps are still sealing the bottom of the doors as well. Good luck!!!

One of the places that cold air manages to enter is along the floor line at the base of the skirting lift the carpet and use a caulking compound to seal the gap. Hire a thermal camera and you will find the cold spots, heavy drapes should help on old windows to keep out the draughts.Look at doors and large areas of glass and your sliding door will need special attention with brush gasket strips to all edges. good luck keep warm.

Plastic in the inside of the windows works well. Just stretch it over the window frame. I use 2 sided tape when I do mine. You can use felt insulation around the doors. I live in an older home and it is very drafty but once I put the plastic up and make sure all the cracks around the doors are sealed I don’t have a problem.

i buy what’s called ROPE CAULK. it’s will remind you of window putty
but there is no mess. it comes in a box, cost about $5.00 dollars and comes in two colors.
grey and brown. i usually buy a box of each. it is caulk that’s shaped like a piece of rope that you just push into place and it sticks to most any surface. i also use it in the summertime for window air conditioners. most any hardware store sells it. try it. i believe you’ll like using it. it’’s also easy to remove after the winters over.
good luck to ya
