cold
Lauralene asked:

My kitten has a cold in both his eyes. He is 3 months old. I have had SEVERAL kittens before, but none of them kept the cold in the eyes. It always went away pretty quickly. His 3 brother and sisters did have it for a little while, but it went away. What can I do to get rid of Snuggles cold?

It could be an upper respiratory infection which needs meds to cure.

It’s not a cold, it’s probably one of several viral infections. You need to take it to the vet and find out what it is before it makes your kitten very sick.

For the sake of the kitten go to the vet, if his immune system can’t clear it up then he needs help, and if you’ve had kittens before and its never lasted this long, then even YOU must know somethings not right.

i was a vet tech for 3 years, the best home remedy is to goto the rx and get anything that u would use for a childs case of pinkeye follow directions on the package

It may be an upper respiratory infection and require antibiotics. They are usually inexpensive. URIs are common in kittens

My toes does this every year about this time. There really is nothing you can do without getting the salve from the vet. Use a cotton ball dipped in warm water to keep it clean. That is the best advice I can give. Do not ever use Visine or other human medicated drops in your cats eyes. They are too strong and can make a cat go blind. You can use natural tears. Make sure it says natural tears and not red out or something like that. My advice would be to call the vet and get the salve, but do the best you can.

This is not a cold. It is a URI and potentially fatal if not treated.
I have seen kittens with the eyes rotted out of their sockets and blind. Please take care of this kitten. If this has been going on for weeks, you will need meds from a vet.

Could it be fleas? Kittens will keep junk in their eyes if they have fleas.

I am not sure what a “cold” in the kittens eye is but if it looks like Conjunctivitus where it is sticky and sometimes the kitten can’t open it’s eye I think i have something that could help. I had kittens with this problem. I called the vet and they told me what to do at home and if that didn’t work to bring them in. Dilute salt in warm water and wash their eye with it. Don’t dip used cotton wool back in the solution and rinse the container out for next time. Do this about three times a day. If this doesn’t work the kitten will need to see avet because I was told that anything to do with the eyes should be looked at because it can damage their eye sight.

One– Go to the vet right away!

Two– No human OR animal, even a kitten, can have a “cold in the eyes”. An infection, yes…but not a “cold”.

Three– Use what the vet TELLS you to use, NOT what someone on here tells you to use, for the infection in his eyes.

You need to research a bit before you get an animal, and you need to be able to take care and make informed decisions before you endanger the animal. It sounds like you might need to get more information before owning kittens.
I’m not trying to berate you, but this is important. Your kitten could go blind or worse if you wait, so go now. I don’t like to see animals in pain because the owner is hesitant to do what is right.

These health checks test for issues that will affect their kittens. They'll be recent on their shots.

A pet mill is a facility that keeps their cats in tiny cages 24 hours per day, seven days each week.

Start with canned food, which is more calorie-laden for energized kittens.

The kitten will become irritated and walks away, and it is extremely tough after that to get your kitten to stand still for any more photographs.
