Feeling the ears, nose or head is not considered a reliable method; you have to determine your dog’s internal temperature to find out for certain.
The only try way to see if an animal has a fever is to take her temperature (use a normal human thermometer with lube & insert into the rectum). The canine “normal” body temperature range is 100.5 – 102.5 *F.
If it’s higher than that, she needs to get to the vet. Babies need immediate care if this is the case, esp. if she hasnt been acting right.
CHECK HER NOSE IT SHOULD BE COOL AND MOIST, DOGS NOSES GET DRY AND WARM TO TOUCH WITH A FEVER. BUT I WOULD CHECK HER OUT WITH A VET IF SHE IS NOT EATING OR DRINKING AS THEY CAN QUICKLY GET DEHYDRATED.
Feel the nose if it’s wet she may have a fever, Yes I said wet not dry. I have dogs
Is her nose moist and cool to the touch? Use the back of your hand to check. Usually if it’s dry and warm, it’s not a great sign. You should call your vet tomorrow. Is she vomiting or having diarrhea. That is a sign of renal failure. Take her to get checked. I don’t think you want to stick a thermometer up her rectum, let them do that!
Symptoms are: fever, watery nasal discharge, yellow eye drainage, and loss of appetite. If ignored, distemper can affect the respiratory, GI and central nervous system with twitching, unsteadiness, weakness, paralysis and seizures. It can be fatal, or result in serious chronic physical problems.
