cold
ciiindddy asked:

I live in Southern California and my mom would like to move to Indiana because of prices and because most of our family lives up there. I’d just like an idea of how cold it gets since we’re not used to that kind of weather.

Thanks.

It gets pretty cold. Sometimes below freezing. I am form Michigan so its about the same weather. Get nice warm jackets and a pair of good snow boots and you will be fine.

It can get pretty cold. Definitely more so than what you’re used to. I’ve listed a link below that will also help you with some annual averages. They are just averages however. Depending on what part of the state to you move to will give you a better determination. Google some of the different cities around the state to check the forecasts. I also put a link to NOAA and you can search by cities that way also.

Just a brief example of personal experience; the last time I was in SoCal I went swimming at Malibu in February. I sure wouldn’t do that here!

The averages are highs in the 20′s to the 30′s and lows in the teens to the 20′s. Winter can be pretty hit or miss. This is my last winter in Indiana. I am looking forward to leaving.

I live in Texas, but went for a week back in October for FFA, it was 32 – 45 degrees

We moved to Florida from Indiana because 1 the cold and 2 the poor job market in Indiana. Driving in the snow and sleet is treacherous. If you’re mom is really set on moving then southern Indiana around bloomington isn’t as bad as the northern part of the state. Indianapolis can be somewhat expensive to live in so try the burbs. If by some chance you move to Bloomington (the best place to grow up in) It is cheaper to live just south of or west of town. bloomington has an amazing College and I’ve always thought of it as a “cultural oasis in the middle of a midwestern desert”. It’s a very safe small town with a much larger towns amenities.

I moved from Hawaii to Indiana … and moved back after 4 years. It is not as cold as, say, Chicago … but it can get downright chilly.

I was there two weeks ago to visit my grown stepson … already down to 14 degrees during the first week in December. I remember a whole week that the temperature never go higher than 20 degrees when I lived there. The good news is that there isn’t a great deal of snow there.

You will find culture shock if you go there from LA … different outlook on life entirely!

Good luck.

I lived in Indiana all my life, and typically in the winter it does get down in the 20′s and 30′s, sometimes cooler we have seen our share of below zero temps with wind chill.

But, the weather in the other 3 seasons are pretty nice, so if you can suffer through a few months of cold weather, it’s not so bad.

The cost of living is much cheaper than CA, of course. Plus, there is a lot to do in Indiana – The Indy 500, cool zoo, lots of music venues and hang out spots, oh yeah and lots of boring corn fields too.

San Diego surfing, around Encinitas and La Jolla is also fantastic. * Re-entry – hitting the lip vertically and re-entering the wave in fast succession.

* Switch-foot – having equal capability to surf regular foot or goofy foot — like being two-handed * Tube riding / Getting barreled – riding within the curl of a wave * Carve – turns ( frequently intensified ) * Pearl- A nose-dive.
