Sorry charlie but it sounds like you need to go to the doctor. Fevers usually don’t just show up without other problems (flu…colds…viral infections). You may need an antibiotic. In the meantime, I would keep taking aspirin or any fever reducer, wear heavy clothing and sleep with lots of blankets tonight to sweat it out of your system. Drinks tons of fluids too!

Motrin…

It’s what they give you at the hospital.
Make sure what you are taking is a fever reducer.

I don’t know if Tylenol even has a fever reducer agent in it?
I always reach for the Motrin when it comes to the fevers!

If you are taking tylenol and the fever still hasn’t gone away you should see your doctor.

I assume you are an adult. Pile blankets on you. This is the old method of breaking a fever. If you can drive it up a bit whatever is causing it should be eliminated. As long as your fever doesn’t go up to 103 again you’ll be ok, also, get in a cold bath water. It sounds like you need a full blown flu medication. I don’t know what you can take, you may want to go to the ER.

103.5 is a high fever . Drink plenty of water and years ago they use to cover up with a blanket and sweat it off like that , but now they seem to tell you not to do that . It always worked before ,even in the olden days what some might call it .
But of course it could be a serious problem , that even though you don’t want to go to the Dr. you should

Make sure your cold medicine doesn’t also contain tylenol or acetaminophen, it’s generic name. You don’t want to accidentally OD on Tylenol, it’ll mess up your liver.
Sounds like you’re doing the right thing about treating your fever. Make sure you drink plenty of liquids, cause when you have a fever your body burns up more liquids.
There’s no telling when your temp and symptoms will get better, a virus can last to 7 days. Virus’s get bettter with time and symptomatic treatment. No medicine (besides cold eeze and the like) will help it go away quicker. Some people say Ecchinacia helps,. but studies show it doesn’t. vit C won’t hurt, but most studies say it doesn’t help either. So, if you get worse, make sure you seek treatment. It’s a good sign the overall temp is lower. Temps do tend to spike in the late afternoon. Good luck hope you feel better sooon!

you could take ibuprofen alternating with the Tylenol, BUT, for instance, most European people, for example, do NOT bring their fever down, they just amp up their fluids & electrolytes so they do not get dehydrated, & let it burn out. the purpose of the fever is to kill the germs, so keeping it around kills off germs (a natural antibiotic), & you get better wayyyy faster; i taught my husband this & his flus/colds last like 2-3 days instead of a week or more, just by staying off the Tylenol & bringing in the fluids; he swears by it now.

the exception is if it is wayyyy high, like 105 + (could cause seizures), or if you are not able to keep fluids down to compensate for what you are losing with the high temperature, it is easy to dehydrate then. if it lasts very long, you have to see an MD anyhow, as this could be a sign of a bad, generalized infection. do not drink like 2 gallons an hour like that lady on the radion in California & die, but drink a nice 12-ounce glass of NONcaffeinated stuff every hour or so. (the caffeine is a diuretic, & you will lose the fluid you are trying to put in.)

I suggest taking ibuprofen (available by the brand names Motrin and Advil.) Take this at least 3 hours after your last dose of Tylenol. Initially, take 4-200mg tablets to equal 800mg. For the subsequent doses, take 2-200mg (400mg) every 6 hours. This should knock it out. Do not exceed 3200 mg per day.

(For future reference…no more than 4000mg of Tylenol a day or you could be in serious trouble! All kinds of stomach and liver problems could result…even death) — Make sure the combo med you’re taking for your cold doesn’t contain acetaminophen (Tylenol)…lots of people OD this way!

If it doesn’t, try naproxen sodium (Aleve) but only take as the bottle prescribes…220mg every 12 hours. This one works quite well, you just have to be careful how you take it.

Advil and Aleve are both NSAIDs (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and also have analgesic (anti-pain) and antipyretic (anti-fever) properties. As with any medication, if you have an allergic reaction, stop the medicine and call your physician immediately.

Keep in mind that a fever helps your body in fighting an infection. Although it makes you feel crummy, its actually part of the bodies natural immune response, as is inflammation.

If you aren’t feeling better in another 2 days or so, see your physician.

I had a fever pretty bad 2 days ago. I got rid of it in 1 day. What I did was take 2 tylenol every 4 hours, pile myself up with tons of blankets even though I was sweating like a pig, drank a ton of water, and forced food down my throat. voila gone!!!!!
